অংকন শিল্পী রোকেয়া সুলতানা ঢাকা বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ের চারু কলা অনুষদে অধ্যাপনা করেন। দীর্ঘদিন ধরে তিনি এই শিল্পের বিভিন্ন মাধ্যমে কাজ করছেন। সমাজে নারীর অবস্থান নিয়ে তার গুরুত্বপূর্ণ কাজ রয়েছে। তার কাজের বিভিন্ন দিক সম্পর্কে জানার চেষ্টা করেছেন আহসানুল হক।
Sudurer Pothik
Rokeya Sultana is an international award-winning printmaker and painter. She has studios in Dhaka and Sydney, and is an influential figure in the regional art scene. Her art is a reflection of loss and displacement, and the impermanence in life. She was influenced in her formative years by the tumultuous war of 1971 that led to the creation of the nation-state of Bangladesh. Rokeya Sultana‘s post-graduate years at Santiniketan in the early eighties, led to a new awakening, with a complete transformation in her artistic language. In her art, she addresses issues of womanhood and the power of intuition and imagination.
The film Sudurer Pothik, produced by Bengal Foundation and directed by Fahmida Munni in 2005, explores Rokeya Sultana’s inner world. It dwells on the artist’s moments of contemplation, and her desires.
